Main Purpose:

The position will be responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership to a skilled maintenance team at the Electrical and Trackless Mobile Machinery sections within Horizontal & Vertical development. The role also carries 2.13.3.2 legal responsibility in terms of the South African Mine Health and Safety Act for both Horizontal and Ventilation shaft Development.

Minimum Requirements:

  • B Tech or BSc Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. 
  • Government Certificate of Competency Electrical or Mechanical (Mines).
  • Shaft sinking experience will be advantageous. 
  • Minimum of 5 years post GCC working experience in Underground Mining and TMM Maintenance environment. 
  • People management experience is key.
  • Project Management experience will be advantageous.

Other Requirements:

  • Proficiency in maintenance and strategic planning, organisational development and leadership.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to manage and function effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team in a multicultural environment. 
  • Adaptable and flexible in approach. 
  • Ability to plan, manage and control a section’s budget. 
  • Ability to perform under pressure. 
  • Taking responsibility and accountability for own behaviour, performance and development.
  • Demonstrating cultural awareness and sensitivity in dealings with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Proven Safety and Production track record in a Leadership position. 
  • Knowledge of Asset Management principles.

Duties:

  • Managing the total maintenance functions of UG TMMs, Electrical and pumping infrastructure within the Development footprint. 
  • Overseeing a Tier 1 contractor sinking the Ventilation shaft for supporting Lift 2 Block cave development. 
  • Generating maintenance best practice systems and processes in order to create an efficient and effective Maintenance Department. 
  • Achieving Best Practice work culture in maintenance standards and procedures. 
  • Ensuring that the Safety, Health and Environmental Standards are implemented and maintained. 
  • Investigating equipment failures and carrying out root cause analyses to improve reliability. 
  • Ensuring continuous improvement initiatives are driven throughout the Department. 
  • Reviewing and managing a 5-year plan for the Department. 
  • Preparing operational and capital budgets and managing the finances within company required limits. 
  • Carrying the 2.13.3. 2 legal responsibility for Horizontal Development and Ventilation Shaft Sinking.
