Purpose of Job/Job Description:
A Museum Curator manages collections of historical or artistic objects, or those of archaeological, scientific or general interest.
Required work experience:
· 2 year relevant work experience is required.
Job Activities/Key Deliverables:
· Has primary responsibility for object/specimen care and storage.
· Registers and catalogues all items on computer. Provides hard copy updates at end of every calendar year to be stored in the Museum's archives.
· Advises the Museum Director/Head of any changes in collections' status.
· Coordinates the monthly Cultural Council meetings and enhance policy.
· Plans exhibits with other museum staff and prepares relevant artifacts for exhibitions.
· Participates in language, cultural, and oral history preservation projects.
· Participates in the annual events (Celebration/ commemoration Day) plans & implementation.
· Attends staff meetings, training and workshops.
· Extensively researches, negotiates prices on and buys items such as collection sculptures, statues and paintings that can add value to the museum collection.
· Plans exhibits with other museum staff and prepares relevant artefacts for exhibitions.
· Participates in language, cultural, and oral history preservation projects.
Educational Requirements:
· Senior Certificate/Matric.
· A qualification in Anthropology, Archaeology, Art, Art History, Arts Administration, Event/Exhibition Management or History at an accredited institution of higher learning.
