Technical Buyer
Job Purpose
The Technical Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring technical materials, components, and services required in the manufacturing process. This role ensures that all technical purchases meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements, supporting and production schedules.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Procurement, or related field.
- 3+ years’ experience in a technical procurement role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, technical specifications, and industrial materials.
- ERP/MRP systems experience, e.g., Syspro, is essential.
- Solid negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Knowledge of ISO standards and quality control procedures is an advantage.
- Experience and understanding of renewable energy equipment such as inverters, batteries, cables, and accessories will be an advantage.
Key Performance Areas
- Source and procure raw materials, mechanical and electrical components, spare parts, and technical services in accordance with engineering specifications and production requirements.
- Liaise with engineering and production teams to understand technical requirements and ensure accurate procurement.
- Evaluate and negotiate with suppliers to obtain optimal pricing, quality, and delivery terms.
- Maintain strong supplier relationships and regularly assess supplier performance.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and BOMs (Bill of Materials) to accurately identify sourcing needs.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure timely replenishment of critical items.
- Manage RFQs, quotations, and purchase orders within the ERP system.
- Track and report on procurement KPIs such as cost savings, lead times, and supplier performance.
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and industry regulations.
- Resolve supply issues such as delays, non-conformance, or shortages that impact production.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and cost-reduction projects.
Working Conditions
- Office-based with regular visits to the manufacturing/production floor and supplier sites as needed.
- May occasionally require travel/visit to supplier facilities.
