Financial Accountant (Contract)
Objective
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Accountant for a 6 months contract to oversee and manage the company’s financial reporting, accounting operations, and compliance functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, managing financial controls, supporting budgeting and forecasting processes, and contributing to strategic financial decision-making. The role involves supervising finance-related activities including debtors, creditors, reconciliations, taxation, reporting, and regulatory compliance while ensuring efficient financial processes that support the organization’s operational and commercial objectives. The Financial Accountant will also play a key role in enhancing internal controls, improving financial performance, and supporting business growth through sound financial analysis and reporting.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree / National Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Completed SAICA / SAIPA articles will serve as an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Financial Accountant or similar finance role within a corporate or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience with:
- Financial reporting and management accounts
- VAT, taxation, and IFRS standards
- Budgeting, forecasting, and profit estimation
- General ledger reconciliations and journal processing
- Debtors, creditors, and accounts supervision
- Internal controls and compliance processes
- Project costing and return on investment analysis
- Experience working with ERP systems, preferably SYSPRO.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and reporting skills.
- Experience in BBBEE administration and reporting will be advantageous.
- Strong analytical, presentation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple financial functions simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to supervise finance teams.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage daily accounting and financial operations of the business.
- Review, authorize, and process payments and Treasury functions.
- Supervise the Debtors, Creditors, and Accounts departments to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.
- Review and approve purchase orders, wage payments, and financial transactions.
- Prepare and process monthly journals, reconciliations, and general ledger entries.
- Compile and review monthly management accounts, profit estimates, forecasts, and financial reports.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns, tax schedules, and statutory financial reports.
- Assist with annual budgeting, year-end reporting, tax packs, transfer pricing documentation, and audit preparations.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS standards, taxation requirements, and company financial policies.
- Conduct financial analysis, project costing, return on investment assessments, and business case evaluations.
- Monitor and strengthen internal financial controls and risk management processes.
- Support BBBEE reporting initiatives and ensure compliance with relevant requirements.
- Investigate and resolve account queries, supplier reconciliations, and stock variances.
- Prepare and submit Hyperion and other management reporting requirements.
- Provide commercial and financial support on tenders, vendor applications, and due diligence processes.
- Assist management with strategic financial planning and decision-making.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of financial records and ERP system processing, preferably SYSPRO.
- Lead, mentor, and support finance team members to ensure high performance and accountability.
- Liaise with auditors, banks, suppliers, and internal stakeholders on financial matters.
- Perform any additional finance-related duties as required by management from time to time.
