Mechanical Draughtsman

Objective:

The Mechanical Draughtsman is responsible for producing accurate technical drawings, 3D models, and manufacturing documentation to support engineering projects. Working closely alongside engineers, the draughtsman translates design concepts and calculations into detailed drawings for fabrication, assembly, installation. and maintenance purposes. The role requires strong technical drafting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to ensure compliance with engineering standards and project requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Design and Drafting

• Produce detailed mechanical drawings, layouts, fabrication drawings, and assembly drawings from concepts and specifications.
• Develop and maintain 2D & 3D models using approved software.
• Generate manufacturing and workshop drawings including Bills of Materials.
• Create general arrangement and installation drawings.
• Revise and update drawings as design changes occur.

Engineering support - Work with Engineers to develop practical and cost-effective design solutions.

Documentation and Quality Control.

Continuous Improvement - Contribute to process improvements that enhance drafting efficiency and drawing quality. 

Qualifications and Experience Required:

• A national diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Draughting or equivalent qualifications.
• Formal Training and Certificate in CAD software.
• Four (4) year's experience  as a Mechanical Draughtsman in Engineering, Manufacturing, Mining, Industrial or related environments.
• Experience in working on design and development projects.
• Proven experience of producing fabrication and manufacturing drawings.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in CAD Software.
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to interpret technical documentation, engineering calculations and specifications.
• Knowledge of Geometric Tolerancing (GD&T) and other drafting standards.
• Familiarity with welding, machining, fabrication and assembly processes.
