Purpose 

  • The objective of this role is to assist sales department by providing commercial support and the necessary information needed to promote the protection & control systems business in the marketplace.

Minimum Requirements

  • BSc, or National Diploma, or N6 Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Electrical Projects, Commercial Contracts, Tendering & Commercial exposure.
  • Experience in Sales & Marketing of Protection relays, Schemes & Substation Automation.
  • In- depth knowledge of Protection relays, Schemes & Substation Automation market and competitors.
  • Knowledge of contractual of sales such as NEC, GCC and FIDIC Contracts.
  • Have strong tendering, sales, and administration skills.
  • High level of technical skills and applications knowledge in Protection relays, Schemes & Substation Automation, to be able to support and oversee technical and commercial offers to the customer.
  • Computer literacy  (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Syspro)

Main Duties

  • Maintain a healthy order book for loose relays & protection & control schemes.
  • Ensure that the company meets its tender commitments in a cost-effective manner, and to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Management of relay sales division.
  • Management of protection schemes & automation tendering department.
  • Management of technology partners.
  • Loose relays stock inventory management.
  • Liaison with the company internal divisions for collaboration on projects.
  • Administration and evaluation of contracts prior to contract signing.
  • Attend to contract modifications and negotiations of contracts.
  • To provide sales & marketing support for the company P&C to ensure growth of protection relays, protection & control panels & automation products & solutions.
  • Review of terms and conditions of sales and improvement of tender process and templates used for day-to-day quotations.

1. Manage Loose Relay Sales Team:

  • Plan, provide direction & monitor the sales engineers call plans & customer visits.
  • Monitor & approve the enquiries and tenders generated by the sales team.
  • To schedule weekly & monthly meetings with the sales team for reporting purposes.
  • To manage price levels with the sales team, along with the capturing of purchase orders, delivery of relays, placing orders on various suppliers and stock levels within the department.

2.  Manage Protection & Automation Business Development & Tendering Team:

  • Plan, provide direction & monitor the tendering team.
  • Monitor & approve the enquiries and tenders generated by the tendering team.
  • Assist Tendering department by providing commercial support and the necessary information needed in order to promote the protection & control systems business in the marketplace.
  • To schedule weekly & monthly meetings with the tendering team for reporting purposes.
  • To manage pricing levels along with the Tender Team.

3.  Customer Support:

  • To maintain good relations with customers.
  • With the assistance of the technical team advise customers on:
  • The correct application of protection relays and control systems.
  • The correct protection & control philosophy.
  • With the assistance of the company protection & control team ensure that customers have full support and service as and when required.
  • Visit customers on site.
  • Promote the company protection & control, service & maintenance departments and make customers aware of their existence.

4.   Reporting:

      Submit monthly reports to general manager timeously on the following:

  • Prospective Business.
  • Products specified.
  • Orders received.
  • Customer call reports.
  • Plan of action for next month.
  • Opposition status report i.e. Market share, new product releases, pricing structures.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong business acumen, negotiation skills and goal driven.
  • Ability to work with others to ensure success in the performance of a team.
  • Strong network within the protection relays, schemes & substation automation market.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skill.
  • Good leadership skills and good time management skills.
