Purpose

The ideal individual will be responsible for overall post-investment activities relating to the company's loan book. This includes providing leadership and expertise in monitoring the performance of the investment portfolio, including compliance requirements. In addition, the role entails ensuring that distressed, defaulting or problematic clients are dealt with in accordance with the respective transaction agreements, and the company's policies and procedures. This includes the early identification of signs of distress, finding remedial actions, and taking responsibility for any amendment or restructuring requirements.

Minimum requirements

  • B Com Honours, Post Graduate Diploma in a related field, CFA, MBA or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a lending environment, investment banking, management consulting, development finance, corporate finance or similar field.
  • Previous experience in corporate finance a must.
  • Good understanding of lending and credit risk environment.
  • Strong credit risk skills, financial modelling, risk management and restructuring capabilities.
  • Understanding of corporate finance principles.
  • Familiarity with regulations in the industry.
  • Demonstrable value-add through operational or strategic oversight in investee companies. 

Main duties

  • Deal individual will be allocated the following responsibilities.
  • Supports the disbursement of funds and assesses whether funds have been applied for the intended purposes.
  • Oversees and monitors the implementation of projects.
  • Monitors whether the intended developmental (job creation, B-BBEE, ESG etc) outcomes are achieved.
  • Leads the proactive monitoring of investments on a continual basis to ascertain the quality of the book. 
  • Ensures that client financial statements are received on time and analyzed to determine the financial health of investments (the analysis includes comparing statements against the approved projections as provided at the time of approval). 
  • Verifies adherence to pre-determined covenants, undertakings and milestones as per the funding agreement.
  • Leads monthly/quarterly/bi-annual/ annual client reviews.
  • Plans and executes periodic site visits to clients for performance and continual risk monitoring.
  • Identifies early warning signs of deterioration and institutes timeous remedial measures to protect the company's interests and prevent, or at least limit, any financial losses from occurring.
  • Attends to breaches of funding agreements and oversees amendments to transaction agreements.
  • Assists junior members and specialists to develop turnaround solutions and assists in the recovery phase. 
  • Takes accountability for preparation and presentation of portfolio reports to various decision-making bodies of the company.
  • Drafts turnaround solutions for investments identified as being/ potentially in financial distress.
  • Responsible for workout and restructuring of distressed clients.
  • Responsible for reviewing and raising impairments timeously.
  • Responsible for security perfection, reviews and periodic valuation.
  • Assists Legal with recoveries when businesses fail.
  • Oversees knowledge management activities – compilation of lessons learnt & success stories.
