Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to manage the direct engineering and development activities of the company's designs to agreed production dates and timescales that are cost effective and comply with specifications and legal requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years’ experience in DC / Switchgear related industry.
  • Manufacturing experience in AC / DC industry.
  • Knowledge of DC power systems.
  • Good commercial insight and attitude required.
  • Computer literate (MS word, MS Excel, MS Projects, Lotus Notes, Syspro).
  • Management skills.

Main Duties

  • Manage the direct engineering activities necessary in support of the sales organisation during the quoting and tendering process.
  • Establish and implement necessary processes and procedures.
  • Facilitate and provide additional technical assistance to the factory, sales and service department.
  • Liaise and attend meetings with other company functions necessary to perform duties and aid business and organisational development.
  • Facilitate and maintain the effective operation of design, drafting, planning processes and related computer software.
  • Manage, maintain and develop internal design procedures and purchase specifications.
  • Manage, maintain and report on equipment and software suitability for direct engineering purposes.
  • Monitor and report on activities and provide relevant management information.
  • Lead failure and quality investigations and write technical reports.
  • Attend to training and develop relevant knowledge and departmental skills.
  • Stay abreast of new product, components, designs to meet market and customer demands including the search and verification of new product to take to market.
  • Adhere to quality, environment and health / safety policy, and other requirements relating to legal requirements.

  • Write technical reports, specifications documents and procedures.
  • Must be in possession of valid driver’s licence and passport.
