Purpose:

The Section Engineer – Electrical and Instrumentation is responsible for maintenance of all electrical and instrumentation equipment’s underground by ensuring the availability and reliability of the equipment’s including compliance to legislation governing the mine.

The Requirements:

  • B. Eng., B Tech, National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Government Certificate of Competency in Mechanical or Electrical (Mines & Works)
  • Siemen’s software PCS 7 programming and WinCC SCADA development.
  • Comprehensive network (LAN & Wireless) experience integrated into a virtual environment.
  • Medium voltage (11kV) and VSD experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years post-degree industrial experience in a related plant(s).
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience and legal knowledge of HSEQ systems.
  • Koepe winders, refrigeration plants and fans experience.
  • Computer literate (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SAP).

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring maintenance of equipment with regards to planning, leading, organising and controlling.
  • Ensuring increased reliability of the equipment through cost analysis.
  • Implementing and executing maintenance strategies to ensure availability of the equipment.
  • Performing preventative maintenance using condition monitoring techniques for component repairs
  • Ensuring critical spares availability and rapid response to breakdowns.
  • Provision of recommendations for improved maintenance of plant and equipment.
  • Ensuring safe installation, proper operation, running and maintenance of all Electrical and Instrumentation that are provided on both fixed and mobile underground plants.
  • Proper maintenance of all buildings, structures, and substations.
  • Ensuring that all safety appliances, mechanisms, and guards are maintained and in good condition.
  • Ensuring legal compliance of equipment especially TMM, Lifting Equipment, electrical reticulation, and fire suppression water circuit to the relevant safety standard.
  • Ensuring compliance to training requirements for employees and contractors
  • Ensuring all work performed by contractors comply with MHSA, company policies and standards.
  • Performing SHEQ audits and inspections to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and maintain operational and capital budget as per the operational and maintenance requirements.
  • Management of the maintenance of equipment at the lowest possible cost without compromising quality and safety.
  • Taking accountability for the comprehensive cost control and budgetary requirements.
  • Ensuring adherence to SHEQ standards.
