Purpose

The role is responsible for providing a specialised service by preparing designs, general arrangement and detailed drawings for capital projects, plant maintenance, as well as updating and revision of existing underground drawings. 

Minimum requirements

  • National Diploma Mine Survey/N6 Engineering discipline, with relevant design/ draughting subjects). 
  • Certificate in MicroStation/ CAD software. 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in multi-disciplinary design office/ Surveying professional. 
  • Advanced certificate in Survey/ Mine draughting and professional registration will be advantageous.

Main duties

  • Preparing engineering drawings for capital projects and maintenance work according to scope of work and design office standards and schedules. 
  • Continuously update and revise existing drawings to ensure accuracy and updated as-built status. 
  • Assessing clients’ needs and ensure that drawings are presented in the most appropriate format (2D / 3D) to minimize the risk of misinterpretation. 
  • Assisting in compiling engineering designs and ensure that designs meet the general safety requirements of the plant whilst complying with national and international standards or as directed by the engineer in charge. 
  • Providing technical expertise and advice as required. 
  • Liaising with Design Engineers to ensure that the required statutory approval is obtained. 
  • Participating in compiling and scheduling the Strategic Business Plan for the mine. 
  • Ensuring design documents are kept/filed according to their numbers and registration. 
  • Updating the design document register. 
  • Adherence to SHEQ standards and procedures. 

Key competencies

  • Advanced knowledge of 2D & 3D CADD based draughting. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of survey & geology.  
  • Advanced user of MS Office. 
  • Discipline specific software knowledge of MicroStation (CADD)and Modelling software. 
  • Applicable legal knowledge and understanding.
