Purpose

The Section Engineer Magnetite maintenance is responsible for maintenance of the plant machineries by ensuring the availability and reliability of the equipment including compliance legislation governing the mine. 

Minimum requirements

  • B. Eng./BSc Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. 
  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC Mines and Works). 
  • Experience in business improvement and continuous improvement. 
  • Tertiary qualification in project management will be an advantage.
  • At least 5 years of experience as an appointed Certified Engineer in terms of the Mine Health and Safety act. 
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in plant maintenance. 
  • Advanced computer literacy (MS Office; advanced Excel; SAP).

Main Duties

  • Ensuring maintenance of the equipment with regards to planning, leading, organising and controlling. 
  • Ensuring increased reliability of the equipment through cost analysis. 
  • Implementing and executing maintenance strategies to ensure availability of the equipment. 
  • Performing preventative maintenance using condition monitoring techniques for component repairs. 
  • Ensuring critical spares availability and rapid response to breakdowns. 
  • Provision of recommendations for improved maintenance of plant and equipment. 
  • Ensuring safe installation and proper operation, running and maintenance of all machinery. 
  • Responsible for the safe erection and proper maintenance of all buildings, structures and tanks. 
  • Ensuring that all safety appliances, mechanisms and guards are maintained in good condition. 
  • Ensuring legal compliance of equipment especially TMM, Lifting Equipment, pressure vessels to the relevant safety standards. 
  • Ensuring compliance to training requirements for the employees and contractors. 
  • Ensuring all work performed by contractors comply with MHSA, company policies and standards.  
  • Ensuring compliance to SHEQ MS and perform SHEQ audits and inspections. 
  • Developing and maintaining operational and capital budget as per the operational and maintenance requirements. 
  • Monitoring subordinates and initiate disciplinary action where required. 
  • Ensuring compliance to SHEQ MS, observe and comply with road regulations.

  • Maintenance Management skills in a multi-disciplined environment and a demonstrated ability to build supportive relationships and teams. 
  • Proficiency in maintenance and strategic planning, organisational development, and leadership.
