Purpose

The Specialist Communications and Network is responsible for providing Level 2 support for install, maintain, and replace Network, IT peripherals and communication devices on site. The secondary function is to install, maintain and replace servers. New installations will be completed according to the company's SOE standard as required. The role requires initial diagnoses of faulty equipment thereby replacing or repairing with onsite spares.

Minimum requirements

  • National Diploma/B Degree in Computer Science, information systems or related field. 
  • Proficient with MS Office Package (MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint). 
  • MSCE, A+. 
  • CompTIA Network+ Certified. 
  • CCNA Certified. 
  • Cisco Networking Data and Voice. 
  • DHCP Server experience. 
  • Cisco Prime, DNA centre and Server experience. 
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes (advantage). 
  • Strong knowledge network and communication infrastructure. 
  • 6 - 10 years’ experience in the operation of Communication and network infrastructure.

Main duties

  • Providing support for the ongoing communication infrastructure maintenance and alignment with the company's standards such as IPT standards and Business processes. 
  • Providing 2nd level Network & Communications support. 
  • Respond in a timely manner in accordance with the SLA to customers, explaining the issue and the proposed resolution of the problem.  
  • Installing, replacing, and maintaining customer’s infrastructure environment.  
  • Managing customer expectations of issue resolution. 
  • Establishing good working relationships with management to establish and increase confidence in the operation of IS&T and to enable issues to be rapidly escalated and resolved. 
  • Establishing and manage processes to ensure services meet customer’s needs and business requirements and the needs of the wider group based on ITIL and MOF.  
  • Diagnose network and communication infrastructure faults. 
  • Replacing and repairing network and communication infrastructure as required 
  • Send replaced infrastructure for repair. 
  • Configuring and installing new network and communication infrastructure as required when replacement is required. 
  • Communicate the process of single point of access and assist the end user through the change process. 
  • Escalation of end user issues as required.

  • Manage workload and report progress and issues to the Team Lead and Management. 
  • Performing backup and restore functions as required. 
  • Assisting in the process of infrastructure asset management.  
  • Controlling site specific/service-related contracts. 
  • Work in close collaboration with central and infrastructure teams. 
  • Maintaining site documentation. 
  • Diagnosing, replacing and repairing Server, backup, Storage and network infrastructure as required.
