Purpose

The Survey Superintendent will be responsible for all survey functions for surface and underground infrastructure, any mining layouts and the tracking of mining rights. The incumbent will be a custodian of all prescribed mining plans and maps and will lead, guide and advice on any related safety and legal matters business. 

Minimum requirements

  • BSc. Degree /BTech in Mineral Resource Management. 
  • Mine Survey Certificate of Competency for appointment under regulation 17.2 of the MHSA as Chief Surveyor. 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Trackless Mining or Block Cave Mining.
  • Registration with SAGI as Mine Surveyor or Professional Mine Surveyor. 
  • Minimum of 10 years post qualification experience in underground Mine Surveying of which 5 years should be in Survey leadership position.
  • Computer literacy (Ms Office, Surpac (Keith Young),Geovia Surpac, Cyclone 360 and other Survey Software packages). 
  • Experience in stability monitoring of open pit walls and tailings dams.
  • Experience in the use of survey wall stations for underground development.

Main duties

  • Managing an effective survey and draughting section. 
  • Surface reclamation, surface Mining and Underground Development. 
  • Compliance with Statutory Responsibilities – plans, document and DMRE Reports. 
  • Compile Development and surface mining month end reporting for financial accounting.  
  • Releasing products to customers within agreed specifications, quality, quantity, and time. 
  • Financial control of expenses, budget planning and cost forecasting. 
  • Processing planning and forecasting as well as optimization and improvement. 
  • Creating and maintain a high-performance survey service - eliminating ineffective processes and implement more effective processes - in order to add value to the end product. 
  • Providing accurate up to date reconciled information for effective management of the production stream and metal accounting.

Key competencies

  •  Good knowledge of the latest legislation relating to mineral resource management. 
  • Experience in the use of Bentley Microstation, Opensite Designer or AutoCad software packages. 
  • Experience in the use of any mine design software will be an advantage. 
  • Underground development experience, underground engineering project experience would be advantageous. 
  • A good background in budget control and safety orientation. 
  • The ability to manage a team of surveyors is an absolute must, as is a medical certificate of Fitness ("Red Ticket").
