Purpose

The Winder Technician will be responsible for providing electrical and instrument maintenance and breakdown assistance to all electrical and instrumentation affected areas. 

Minimum requirements

  • National Diploma or similar qualification in either Electrical or Instrumentation. 
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a Winder Technician in an electrical or instrumentation maintenance environment, including HT, AC and DC experience. 
  • Advance computer literacy. 
  • Experience on Siemens Drives (Cyclo Converter) equipment, Winder Machinery, Crushing & Conveying equipment and Refrigeration plants and will be an advantage.  
  • Experience on fault-finding using SCADA System.

Main duties

  • Adhering to all legal and safety requirements Maintenance. 
  • Fault finding and repair on all electrical and instrumentation equipment up to 11KV. 
  • Modifications and plant improvements in the area of responsibility. 
  • Ensuring adherence to SHEQ standards. 
  • Responsible for housekeeping, personal safety and for fellow workers, reporting any safety incidents or accidents. 
  • Ensuring that all installations and maintenance are done according to the GS6 and GS7 specifications. 
  • Training and coaching of new E & I artisans, existing E & I artisans and apprentices. 
  • Effectively completing administration duties e.g. work orders, spares requests, breakdown / RCA reports etc. 
  • Responsible for educating / familiarizing oneself with the related drawings and functional / operational philosophies. 
  • Responsible for proper daily routines and to ensure that the equipment and systems are operating to the highest level. 
  • Responsible for first line calls on all instrumentation and electrical equipment. 
  • Programming of all motor protection relays & devices, Siemens 3WN6, SIMADYN D & SIMOREG drives, VSD's, SITOR modules, protection relays for 11 & 3.3 kV breakers. 
  • Keeping all fixed plant equipment operations to its optimal performance by optimizing parameters. 
  • Ensuring correct grading of fault currents between substation incomer breakers. 
  • Injection testing of switchgear for correct relay operation during commissioning. 
  • Developing, planning, installing, and commissioning new electrical and instrument installations. 
  • Performing legal electrical and instrumentation inspections. 
  • Maintaining and fault finding on elevator systems, crushing and conveying systems, cranes, winders, refrigeration plants including legal duties. 
  • Ensuring the following of company’s procedures and guidelines. 
  • Navigation of Win CC systems. 
  • Managing stock levels of spares in the area. 
  • Planning and managing own work; and relieving Supervisor when required. 

Key competencies

  • Sound knowledge of the relevant legislation with regards to elevators, cranes, conveyors, winders and fridge plants. 
  • Sound knowledge of the relevant safety standards.
  • Ability to interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings and perform fault finding. 
  • Ability to work underground if required. 
  • Good understanding and knowledge of planned maintenance principles on Winding Systems, Fridge Plant, Crushing and Conveying systems and operations.
  • Ability to fault find during problem solving on all electrical and instrumentation equipment. 
  • Ability to compile reports i.e. technical, RCA documents. 
  • Ability to read and interpret Siemens drawings.
